Council History
The Indian Council of Chemists (ICC) was founded in Agra on 19 September 1981 with the objective of advancing and promoting the cause of chemical research and education in the country.
The primary objectives of the Council are:
To advance and promote chemical research and education in India.
To publish research journals, proceedings, transactions, and other scholarly materials of high standard and topical interest.
To organize conferences, seminars, symposia, discussions, special lectures, exhibitions, and other academic activities that promote a better understanding of chemical research and its applications in economic, social, and industrial development.
To strengthen national cooperation and foster closer interaction among scientists across the country.
To collaborate with national and international scientists working in the field of chemistry and to cooperate with organizations having similar objectives.
The Council began its journey in 1981 with a membership of 40 Fellows. Over the years, it has grown significantly in both strength and reputation. Today, the Council has approximately 1,100 Life Fellows and 500 Annual Fellows.
Its members include scientists, teachers, and research scholars from universities, colleges, Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), other academic institutions, and scientific organizations from across the country.
